These Haunting Lyrics by John Lennon’s Son Changed My Perspective on Love Forever
Be ready for a big one!
The Claypool Lennon Delirium features the impressive talents of Les Claypool and Sean Lennon. Before discovering them, I thought John had taken his talent from the world with him when he died. Hearing one song, I realized that talent is alive and well: in Sean!
However, while his father sang “All You Need Is Love” and “Imagine all the people living life in peace,” Sean’s work tends to be more jaded. Off-kilter. Strange.
“Stranger than the White Album’s № 9,” I hear you cry. No, but you’ll pick up the relation instantly.
I want to talk about one song in particular, “Boomerang Baby.” Sean sings:
When everyone is at your fingertips and nobody’s receiving
True love is something that your grandmother was fooled into believing
These words had to float around in my brain a while, but eventually, I realized the reason for the resonance. I believe in true love. Somewhere deep inside me.
I’m roughly the same age as Sean Lennon. I couldn’t physically be the grandmother he’s referring to, but I’m certainly old enough to be someone’s grandma.
